The United Nations annual World Happiness Report has named Burundi Africa’s saddest country, while naming Mauritius the happiest country in Africa.
The World Happiness Report 2018, ranked 156 countries by their happiness levels, based on factors including life expectancy, social freedom, absence of corruption and migration within and between countries.
Bottom of the chart in Africa was Burundi, which rose from second place to push out Central African Republic which was ranked second saddest country in African. South Sudan was ranked third saddest country in Africa.
In 2016, Burundi came bottom of the list, but rose to 154th place in 2017, while the Central African Republic was found to be the least happiest country.

Burundi plunged into crisis when President Pierre Nkurunziza’s bid for re-election to a third term in 2015 sparked protests by opposition supporters who said the move was unconstitutional.
The 20 countries below emerged as the least happy countries in Africa. (7 of the saddest countries in Africa also happen to be the least happiest countries in the world).
