Being a president in Africa is a job with good benefits, fantastic pay, and great health coverage. That’s why many people kill to be president. But it is not always a bed of roses.
From body malfunctions and getting shot to getting stabbed repeatedly, here are 5 African Leaders Who Died Horribly Unfortunate Deaths.
1. Muammar Gaddafi (Libya)
Thanks to mobile phone technology, Gaddafi’s capture and death at the hands of rebel militias was broadcasted across the world. The video showed him crying and begging while being beaten. The video also showed him being sodomized with a bayonet before he was shot several times.

2. Samuel Doe (Liberia)
A Liberian dictator long supported by the United States (because of his anti-communist stance), Doe was eventually overthrown by rebel factions led by Charles Taylor. He was dragged through the streets, had his ears and fingers cut off, and then he was brutally decapitated.
Samuel Doe is the first world leader to be tortured on camera before being executed and his body desecrated.
3. Melchior Ndadaye (Burundi)
Melchior Ndadaye, 40 was assassinated during an unsuccessful military coup.
According to reports, Two soldiers apparently held a cord around his neck as another stabbed him repeatedly until he died.
The killling of Melchior Ndadaye, a Hutu, by hardline Tutsi soldiers led to several years of civil war between the two ethnic groups, in which an estimated 200,000 people died.
4. Omar Bongo Ondimba (Gabon)
When he died in 2009, President Omar Bongo Ondimba of Gabon had ruled the country for 42 consecutive years. He was one of the longest serving rulers in history and also one of the most corrupt.
Bongo Ondimba died in Barcelona, Spain, on June 8th, 2009, after months of battling advanced intestinal cancer and other related illnesses. He was 72.
5. Idi Amin (Uganda)
While in power, Idi Amin ruthlessly massacred an estimated 300,000 people and exiled all Indian and Pakistani citizens during his 8 year rein. He was never fully brought to justice for all his crimes, and he actually lived quite comfortably in exile until his death. However, he reportedly died of organ (kidney) failure.
