7 Prominent People Who Were Murdered By Their Own Bodyguard

Body guards are people who escort and protect a prominent person, that’s their job, the only job they are employed to do, to escort and to protect. But unfortunately not all bodyguards respect the job description… Below are 7 prominent people who were murdered by their own bodyguard

1. PHILIP II OF MACEDONIA

The murder of Philip occurred during October 336 BC, at Aegae, the ancient capital of the kingdom of Macedon. The court had gathered there for the celebration of the marriage between Alexander I of Epirus and Philip’s daughter, by his fourth wife, Cleopatra. While the king was entering unprotected into the town’s theater he was killed by Pausanias of Orestis, one of his seven bodyguards.
The reason(s) for Pausanias’ assassination of Philip are not fully known, since there was already controversy among ancient historians.

2. PAKISTANI MP HANDERY MASIH

A committed Christian and patriotic Pakistani, Handery Masih was well known as an advocate for the rights of religious minorities in Pakistan, who were persecuted for their faith.

He was shot by his bodyguard outside his home and taken to hospital in critical condition, where he died as a result of the gunshot wounds. Reasons why he was shot by his bodyguard are still unclear till today.

3. LAURENT KABILA

After seizing power from the dictatorial grip of Mobutu Sese Seko, Kabila began genuine reforms in congo. He would not be allowed to go far with his visions for his people. One afternoon, one of his bodyguards shot him four times, and then escaped with other conspirators.

Laurent Kabila battled with death for another two days before giving up the ghost.
Till today no one knows for sure if the culprits were caught.

4. MOHAMED BOUDIAF

Mohamed Boudiaf was a major political presence in the years leading to Algeria’s independence, though a patriotic citiizen, he embarked on a self-exile in morocco to stay alive after Several attacks were made on his life. But returned 27 years later to rule over the country.

When his reign started in february 1992, he made it his mission to stop the civil war and restore law and order back to the country. But he would not have enough time to turn things around. On the 29th of June 2009, he was assassinated by a bodyguard during a televised public speech on his first visit outside Algiers as Head of State.
He was president for only five months.
The culprit Lambarek Boumaarafi was apprehended and imprisoned.

5. SALMAAN TASEER

Salmaan Taseer was a Pakistani businessman and politician who served as the 26th governor of the province of Punjab from 2008 until the 4th of january 2011 when he was shot multiple times with an Ak 47 by Malik Mumtaz Qadri, one of his body guard.

After the shooting, the assassin Malik Qadri threw his weapon down, put his hands up and reportedly pleaded to be arrested. He was sentenced to death On 1 October 2011, and was executed on 29 February 2016.

6. AHMED WALI KARZAI

Ahmed Wali Karzai, the younger paternal half-brother of former Afghan President Hamid Karzai was a politician in Afghanistan who served as Chairman of the Kandahar Provincial Council from 2005 until his death in 2011 when he was shot by his head of security sardar mohammed, a man who had worked for the Karzai family for at least 10 years.

The killer (Sardar mohammed) was shot and killed almost immediately by fellow bodyguards.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, telling the BBC it was their most important victory in the last decade.

7. MANISH SOOD

Manish sood alias Bunty before his death was the president of the Punjab unit of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Suraksha Samiti in india. He was shot and killed by his security guard at his residence on August 4, 2015.

Though his killer was later arrested, reasons for the murder are yet to be known.
