Google Year in Search 2020: Most Popular Google Searches in Nigeria — Full List

Google (GOOGL) released its annual “Year in Search” list on Wednesday. The list acts as a sort of chronicle of the decades worth of newsworthy things that took place during 2020. The list features the year’s top trending searches, which had a high spike in traffic over a sustained period in 2020 compared to 2019.

Unsurprisingly, “coronavirus” topped Nigeria trending searches list, as people sought answers about the deadly pandemic. Also among the top 10 on the list are: US Election, Google Classroom and ASUU.

Google also broke out top NG trending searches in a number of categories.

The “people” category includes queries about Joe Biden, Rema, Naira Marley, Rahama Sadau and Hushpuppi

In Nigeria, some of the questions people searched for in relation to the pandemic included: how to make sanitisers and How to make face mask.

There was also interest in the US elections in Nigeria with users searching for details about president-elect Joe Biden and the incoming vice-president Kamala Harris.

Also, “Fem” a song by Afrobeats star Davido was the most searched song in Nigeria.

Recipes for porn star martini – a popular South African cocktail made with passion fruit – was also among the top searches in Nigeria.
