South Africa has the fastest mobile Internet download speed as of February 2019, the latest data from the Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index showed.

The Ookla’s Speedtest index, which compares Internet speed data from around the world on a monthly basis, stated that the global average for mobile Internet download speed for the 137 countries examined in January/February was 25.38 mbps while 9.99 mbps was the global average upload speed attained.

South Africa’s ranking for mobile internet download speed rose four places to occupy the 55th position globally (making it the top in Africa); the country occupied the 51st position globally in December/January but now occupies the 55th position.

Tunisia clinched the second position in the mobile broadband category in Africa with an average download speed of 70.29 mbps and an upload speed of 10.90 Mbps. Morocco, Angola and Côte d’Ivoire completes the top 5.

The giant of Africa, Nigeria was ranked 107th Globally in mobile Internet download speed, down two places from its 105th position in January. Which ultimately means the country has the 10th fastest mobile internet speed in Africa.
