1. Nigeria Overtakes India in Extreme Poverty Ranking

In 2018, Nigeria Overtook India as the world capital of poverty.. Currently Nigeria has the highest number of people living in extreme poverty, over 90 million people.

2. Nigeria Ranked Among Countries With the Worst Suicide Rate

2018: Nigerians love life, atleast they used to be. But not anymore. According to report published by spectator index in 2018. Nigeria has the highest suicide rate in Africa. and fifth largest in the World with 15,000 suicide deaths per 100,000 people.

3. Nigeria ranks among the worst Nations in the world investing in Education & Healthcare

2018: According to the first-ever scientific study ranking countries for their levels of human capital, Nigeria ranks 171st in the world for its investments in education and health care.

Here’s the shocker, Even Sudan was ranked higher than Nigeria.

4. Worst Police Force in the World

2017: According to data released by the world Internal Security and Police Index in 2017, Nigeria has the worst police force in not just Africa, but the world as a whole.. Nigeria’s police force was ranked 127th out of the 127 countries ranked.

5. Nigeria Leads in Piracy Attacks in Gulf of Guinea

2018: Despite efforts by the federal government to reduce the cases of piracy and banditry in Nigeria’s territorial waters, the country still leads in pirates attack in the Gulf of Guinea. The report by the International Maritime Bureau (IMB) revealed that a total of 156 incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships were reported to its Piracy Reporting Centre in the first nine months of 2018 compared to 121 for the same period in 2017.

6. Nigeria is the third most terrorised country in the world

The ranking on terrorism was released towards the ending of 2018. and Nigeria, for the fourth consecutive year, occupied the third position among the countries worst hit by terrorism globally, because of the activities of Boko Haram and herdsmen.

7. Air pollution, Nigeria ranks 4th deadliest in the world

2018: According to the annual State of the Global Air Report published by the Health Effects Institute (HEI), air quality in Nigeria is among the deadliest anywhere on earth with higher than ambient air pollution death rates as a result of the environmental hazards combined with extreme pollution sources like generator fumes, vehicle emissions and crop burning among others.

8. 2018: Nigeria Has The Third Highest Infant Mortality Rate In The World

2018: Nigeria is one of the most dangerous places in the world to give birth in the world and the 3rd country with the worst infant mortality rate in the world ahead of Sierra Leone, Central African Republic and Chad

9. Nigeria has ‘largest number of children out-of-school’ in the world

2018: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says Nigeria still has the highest number of out-of-school children in the world, with 60 per cent of the children located in Northern Nigeria.
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) also disclosed that Nigeria accounts for 45 per cent of the growing number of out-of school children in West Africa.

10. Nigeria forecasted to become the World’s Capital for Infants’ Death by 2021

2018: According to a world bank report, Nigeria will overtake India in 2021 as the country with the most under-five deaths in the world.
The report predicts that just like Nigeria overtook India as the world’s poverty capital in 2018, the country will overtake India as the nation with the highest number of infant mortality under the age of five by 2021.
One reason for this estimate is the fact that the highest number of children who die from malaria in the world can be found in Nigeria.

10. Nigeria ranked among top worst African countries for child labour

2018: According to child labour index, Nigeria is among the worst African countries for child labour, where children are made to work in backbreaking jobs such as logging, mining, as well as exploiting them as beggars, household servants, and even for sexual purposes.

12. The worst country in the world at fighting inequality is Nigeria

2018: Nigeria is the least committed country in not just Africa, but the whole world when it comes to reducing the inequality between the rich and poor’ this is according to Oxfam’s CRI 2018 index.
According to this years ranking, Nigeria’s social spending (on health, education and social protection) is shamefully low, which is reflected in very poor social outcomes for its citizens.
