Here Are Things You Probably Didn’t Know About These Popular Nigerian Comedians

Before this Nigerian comedians became the icons most of us now drool over, they were once like us.. An average Nigerian. 

Here are things you probably didn’t know about these popular Nigerian comedians.

1. Basketmouth

Before comedy, Basketmouth was a rapper. He even formed a rap group called “Da Psychophats” which had 7 members including him and they started going for shows and rapping in 1995. Fpur members later left the group. At the time rap wasn’t totally accepted in their city so he gave up music. He still got some sick flows though.

2. Bovi

Bovi once worked as the personal assistant to Richard Mofe-Damijo, or RMD as he is popularly known. The job came unexpectedly though, apparently he had walked into his office to sell a movie script to him (RMD). But instead landed a job as his personal assistant. which he accepted on the spot.

3. Akpororo

Akpororo

The name akpororo was given to him by a Bishop. Before that, it was Holy Son.

4. I go dye

Known for his rib cracking jokes, I go dye the comedian actually came to him by accident. After he won a scholarship to study Structural Engineering he was invited for an interview on Delta State TV in the early 1990s. Throughout the duration of the interview He kept everybody laughing, including those interviewing him. After the interview, as a parting gift, the lady who interviewed him told him he had a great future as a comedian…. and apparently, she was right.

5. Ay

“I always started my comedy those days with my short comings in life but that one’s another story for another day,” he says waving his hands emphatically, “I tried to tell my fans that no matter where they’re coming from, they’ll succeed as long as they stay focused. ”

AY’s 2014 movie “30 Days in Atlanta” earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as one of the films with the highest domestic gross in the territories of Bollywood, Nollywood and Hollywood.

He is the only Nigerian comedian/actor in the Guinness book of world records.

And yes, he spent 9 years in the university.

6. Teju babyface

Teju babyface

Many people dont know this, but Teju babyface is actually that young smart chidi that starred in the movie “DIAMOND RING” who was cajoled by his friends to join a cult group, yeah, he was the guy that stole from a corpse.

7. Yaw (Steve onu)

Yaw the comedian

Just like many Nigerians, Yaw didn’t have it easy growing up, having to sell things. He sold ice-water at Yaba market, and even did bus conductor once in a while just to supplement his parents income.
