1. Sahara reporters (april fools day 2016)

One of the most controversial pranks of the day was posted by Sahara reporters, where it was alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari collapsed during a press conference.

2. The Hoax Robbery (April fools day 1952)

In South Africa, four masked men entered a bank, aimed water pistols at the staff, and declared, “This is a holdup. Hand over the cash.”

3. Now Hiring (april fools day – 2015)

 The South African president’s office sent out a press release on April 1 2015 by announcing new cabinet appointments for positions that do not exist, making April Fools of some local media.
The new positions included ministers for Public Participation and Interface, and Roads and Traffic Affairs.
The local media house EWN initially ran the story, but later updated it with the headline “We fell for it”.

4. Hussein Offered a Job in South Africa (April Fool’s Day – 2003)

South Africa’s Afrikaans-language Beeld newspaper scooped its rivals by reporting that, in a last minute deal to avoid war, Iraqi President Saddam Hussein had accepted an offer of exile in South Africa. In exchange he would run South Africa’s oil industry. Details of the arrangement included: Hussein would be given a game farm on which to live, and he would travel in a jet outfitted with a missile defense system. The US was said to be happy about the deal because it would make Hussein “somebody else’s problem.”

5. The prank marriage (April fools day -‘2006’)

One of the biggest April Fools ’ Day pranks was planned and executed by a radio station in Ghana -Joy FM.
The now late Komla Dumor together with Mawuko Zormelo, planned the most audacious prank ever.

He announced on air that he was getting married and that it would be held on the premises opposite Joy FM. People were excited about this and were sending in congratulatory messages, even Ministers of state fell for the prank His supposed bride was put in the wedding vehicle with a big entourage and they paraded the streets of Accra.

Many people took the bait and responded to Dumor’s invitation to attend his wedding only to find out that the supposed bride was actually his co-worker Mawuko Zormelo and that there was no wedding.

6. Kenyan troops to serve in iraq (april fools day – 2003)

Kenya’s East African Standard reported that the US forces in Iraq were actively recruiting reinforcements from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Sudan. Troops from these regions were supposedly better adapted to desert conditions which were giving the US forces a “rough time.”. Source: hoaxes.org
